Cabeza del Buey is a municipality of around 4,700 people located on the border with Andalucía. Human existence in the area dates back to the Neolithic area, and it became an important location on the road between Medellín and Mérida during the Visigoth period. As a result of later military clashes, the town lost its importance as a transit point, and the whole area became depopulated during the Reconquista era.
