Fuente de Cantos is a municipality of around 4,700 people located around 101 kilometers from Badajoz.  The local economy is primarily agricultural, including crops and cattle raising. The Camino de Santiago’s Via de la Plata runs through the area.

There was a screening of the documentary about lesbians in Extremadura, Los versos de Safo, at Teatro de Verano Huertas del Hospital Fuente de Cantos off Plaza Sol on 23 July 2019. It was part of the town’s Cine de Verano program.
