Guareña is a municipality of around 7,100 people. There has been human habitation in the area since the prehistoric period, with the current urban core being founded in the thirteenth century.
History
Podemos Guareña has occasionally used its social media platforms to post about lesbian related topics, including about a lesbian Miss Universe contestant in 2014.
There was at least one out lesbian living in the town in 2015. Facebook was one of the most popular social networks in the municipality for lesbians.
PSOE Guareña presented a motion in the local townhall demanding the rights of the LGTBI collective in honor of Orgullo 2020, including lesbian couples having the ability for both mothers to be listed on a birth certificate of their children even if unmarried.

Calle Carolina Coronado is a street in the town named after Carolina Coronado, one a handful of Spanish Sapphic writers from the 19th Century. She was part of the hermandad lírica. Coronado was widely read at the time but later written out of history because she challenged patriarchal norms of the era.
