The district of Retiro is strongly influenced by the presence of the park of the same name and Paseo del Prado. In modern times, it has become more of a residential area.

Retiro, officially district number 3, is located south of Centro. Its population of around 119,000 or so live in six barrios, Pacífico (31), Adelfas (32), Estrella (33), Ibiza (34), Jerónimos (35) and Niño Jesús (36).
