Fuenmayor is a municipality located along the Ebro river with a population of around 3,200 people. The area was first settled in the Celtiberian period when it it was known as Varia or Varegia. The town began to take off economically in the 19th century when large wineries were established in the region.
History
The rainbow flag was raised at the Casa de Culture in Fuenmayor in honor of Orgullo 2009. The town was one of fifteen public entities in La Rioja to raise the rainbow flag in 2009 for Pride.[1] Orgullo 2018 celebrations in La Rioja took place in Logroño, Fuenmayor and Calahorra. [2]
