Nájera is a municipality and locality with a population of around 8,000 people.  The site of the town has been occupied since at least the Bronze Age, with continuous occupation in the town since the Iron Age. The local economy is largely based on furniture making.  Since the transition to democracy in 1979, the town has been led by a number of political parties, most recently by PSOE.

History

Esteban Manuel de Villegas is a seventeenth century poet. He was born in Matute on 5 February 1589 and died in Nájera on 3 September 1669. He was the first Spanish poet to use Sapphic meters in writing verse, a deviation from the current forms of verse in use at that time. His only Sapphic inspiration appeared to be the style of verse, and not themes around female love.

xaffair.net is a relationship site for people looking to cheat founded in 2019 that includes a section for gays and lesbians. The site has a history of putting up fake profiles which message people, with the goal of encouraging people to buy their premium service. It is unclear how often this happens in Spain or with lesbian members. There was only one lesbian listed as seeking partners from Nájera in May 2022, and that was a 25-year-old.
