A history of Pride in Logroño
Pride, known as Orgullo in Spanish, appears to have first been celebrated in Logroño in 1981, around four years after the first recognized homosexual march took place in Barcelona and around ten years after the first lesbian led march in honor of Christopher Street Liberation Day took place in Madrid.[1] That year, Asociación Feminista […]

A history of GYLDA, La Rioja’s first LGTB rights organization

An incomplete history Lesbians and feminism in Spain by region
Last night on my Twitter feed, there were some big discussions about lesbians and feminism in Spain. A brief history of AIDS in La Rioja and Spain from a lesbian perspective
This article looks at the history of AIDS from a lesbian perspective in La Rioja and Spain more broadly as part of an overall background to understanding the landscape for lesbians in La Rioja, especially as it pertains to LGTB activism and sexual health to try to provide a narrative history which can be used to understand the broader situation for lesbians and to try to uncover some of the hidden lesbian history in the region.

Lesbian intersections with transwomen
This is not written in a coherent manner. Rather, this is a summary written by looking through my various histories and copying and pasting the relevant bits of intersectional history. I did this at the request of someone who was interested in knowing when the conflict between L (and maybe G and B) became much […]

Butch and femme history
A lesbian subculture was in place by the start of the Primo de Rivera dictatorship. Lesbians tended to be divided into one of two groups, flappers imitated Carlota, from the novel Sab or butch lesbians with mannish manners. The flapper subset identified as European women, often worked outside the home where the found a degree of personal freedom, and were portrayed by outsiders as being almost Grecian in appearance.
